Kayak the Playa Las Tortugas Estuary.

The Playa Las Tortugas estuary spans a vast area, making it an exceptional spot for kayaking. Enjoy stunning views of the Sierra Madre mountains, wind through lush mangroves, and witness flocks of birds gathering.

Grab your paddle.

Your kayaking adventure begins right on the Playa Las Tortugas property. Here’s how to arrange your kayak trip:

  1. Tell your host you would like to rent a kayak, typically US $25 per day.

  2. They will bring your kayak to the entry point, while leaving the paddle at your villa.

  3. It’s just a 1-2 minute walk from your villa to the entry point—wear flip flops or go barefoot.

  4. Check tides to leave 1 hour before high tide to ride the tide into the estuary, and then again back out. Otherwise, it can be a grind to paddle against the tide.

  5. Bring plenty of water, sunscreen, snack and perhaps a hat.

  6. The roundtrip is about 2 1/2 hours.

  7. The entry point is very muddy, but once you’re in your kayak you can rinse your feet.

  8. When you reach the large lagoon at the end take note of where you came in because the islands of mangroves can be disorienting when you turn around.
