Are beach and bath towels provided?
Yes. All villas in Playa Las Tortugas provide guests with both bath towels and beach towels.
Do we need to bring drinking water?
No. All villas in Playa Las Tortugas provide guests with drinking water through our delivery service.
Are there bugs like mosquitos, no-see-ums or jejenes?
Yes. There are some mosquitos during the summer, but very few in the winter. There are no-see-ums (also known as sand flies or jejenes) active in the evenings in the gardens. They are not active during the day. It’s a good idea to put bug spray on your legs while sitting or walking through the gardens in the evening and early morning.
Do you provide beach chairs and umbrellas?
Yes. All villas in Playa Las Tortugas provide guests with beach chairs and a sunshade. Most villas also provide a wheeled cart to bring your supplies to the beach.
What is the best way to get transport to Playa Las Tortugas?
About half of guests rent a car, and half hire our car service. The cost is about the same if your stay is 5 days. The car service can also be hired for local trips and excursions. It is about US$465 for roundtrip to/from the Puerto Vallarta airport.
How far away is Playa Las Tortugas from Puerto Vallarta?
The drive from Puerto Vallarta to Playa Las Tortugas takes about 2 hours and 20 minutes. The new toll road is now open which makes for a scenic and safe drive. We suggest having 1000 pesos on hand for the tolls, each way. It may cost as little as 500 pesos, but the cost varies according to the day and time of day.
Are there grocery stores in Playa Las Tortugas?
There are no grocery stores in Playa Las Tortugas. There are small local grocery stores on the way into Playa Las Tortugas, about 50 minutes away in Zacualpan. The best approach is for guests to first stop at the large, modern grocery stores just outside of the Puerto Vallarta airport to buy groceries. The caretaker at your villa can then keep you resupplied with groceries, as you need them.
Are there restaurants in Playa Las Tortugas?
While there are not restaurants immediately in Playa Las Tortugas, every villa offers a private chef service for breakfast and dinner. Breakfast costs US$25 per person and breakfast costs US$15 per person. There is also a restaurant in Platanitos that will deliver to your villa. If you would like an adventure, you can cross the estuary by wading at low tide or a short swim at mid/high tide and then walking 10 minutes to the Platanitos beach where there are 4 restaurants to choose from right on the beach. They are geared for locals, but that is part of their charm—and they have excellent fish!
Will the turtles be released during our stay?
The baby sea turtles are released year round but the frequency is higher during the summer and fall, when they are released every day. Starting in December they become less frequent but if you are in Playa Las Tortugas for 3 days or more you should be able to see them. It is best to stop by the turtle camp during the day to say hello and ask if they are releasing the baby turtles that evening. They typically release them just before sunset.
Can you rent surfboards in Playa Las Tortugas?
Yes, you can rent soft-top and hard-top surfboards in Playa Las Tortugas. They cost US$25 per day. We have a 9 1/2 foot, two 9 foot boards, and a couple shorter boards. Just let us know which boards you would like and we’ll bring them to your villa.
Can you rent kayaks in Playa Las Tortugas?
Yes, you can rent single and double kayaks in Playa Las Tortugas. They cost US$35 per day. The estuary is an ideal spot for peaceful paddling. Just let us know which days you would like the kayaks and we will bring them to your villa.
What are the payment and cancellation policies in Playa Las Tortugas?
The payment and cancellation policies are set by the individual villas at Playa Las Tortugas. Typically you are asked for a refundable security deposit of US$400 and the first payment which will be between 10% to 50% of the total, depending on the villa. And then the remaining amount will be due a month or so prior to your visit. Depending on the villa, payment typically can be made via wire transfer, Paypal, Venmo, and cash upon arrival for shorter stays.
What is the process for booking the villas?
Once you confirm you would like to move forward with a villa, just let us know and we will connect you with the owner of the villa directly. You will arrange payment with them and they will be your point-of-contact for the details of your stay.
